I want to express my gratitude for help at a very dark time for me. I felt apprehension seeking help paying my rent. I felt shame and believed I would be judged as less than who I am. But from the moment I came into your office I was shown compassion and reassured that I mattered. Thanks to all involved, I am now able to maintain my self-respect, and I owe that to the kind people of CAPS. I give thanks to God that CAPS is there for we who struggle during hard times.
I am a single mother of 4. I was recently laid off from my job. My unemployment lasted a total of 4 months. At the same time my ex-husband decided to take the summer off from paying child support, which left me in a bind with my children’s school supplies. I had to pinch off of my rent to afford supplies. I then received an eviction letter, but CAPS stepped in and saved us. The assistance we received gave us the time we needed to stop the eviction process, and I was able to find a new place for us to live within my new budget.
